Refine your written English language skills in science and industry contexts!
Intermediate English for Writing in Science and Industry (ESCI 170) is the second course in the English for Writing in Science and Industry series. This course focuses on vocabulary and grammar used in comparing and contrasting, stating cause-effect relationships, and proposing solutions. Final individualized project may be a proposal, evaluation, or feasibility report.

ESCI 170 is an intensive, interactive online course with:

  • Interactive skill-building exercises
  • Short assignments to be sent via e-mail
  • Individualized and detailed help from a University of Washington instructor
This course is designed for non-native speakers of English who work in or are studying scientific or technical fields and want to improve their English. They may also be taken by native speakers who wish to improve their writing in technical documents.

Anyone may take this course, and it is accessible from anywhere in the world.
